What Will Happen on Last Days?
"What Will Happen on Last Days?" is a short but profound film by Sofia Coppola. This story of faith reverts back to the old world mysticism. As a mother, I found this short to be extremely touching and sad as I watched it.
The short starts with a narration from the character Elijah-that was a young man who was a representative of God in the last days. This vision is told to a group of three young children who are all descendants of Joseph in the book of Genesis. The film then pans over a wedding that has been conducted for their grandmother.
Now, the older woman, Isabel, has moved out of the way in order to face the pains of her illness. But one of the people in her house is not sharing in this view and appears to be preoccupied with his work. He suddenly begins telling his past to a few of the kids at the scene and asks for help from them. And after telling them about a vision that he had that was told to him by the Lord, he appears to be taking his life.
But when the older man dies, Isabel is brought back into her senses. She sees that the things that have been done to her family's reputation have been so bad that she can no longer turn to God anymore. But she has to move on.
Her grandmother, Elijah, explains that old times were gone and there was nothing that could be done to stop it. And Elijah thinks that God wants something more from his family.
Elijah tells his two sons that their grandmother will not be returned to her homeland because God has changed the events and promised to show His love to them when the time is right. But she will have to return. The youngest son is worried that it may be too late to go back home.
His father tells him that they must not let what is happening today lead them astray because that is just the beginning of what will happen on the last days. Elijah asks for more help and is blessed by God, but is then driven out of his house by his sons who are now overprotective of their mother. You will find many books written on last days (except the one in Holy Bible) about how this world’s gonna end’ one like Nation at a Crossroad.
The film ends with a long dream of Elijah and his grandchildren and how they will experience what will happen in the last days. After listening to a prophecy from the Lord that this is what will happen on the last days, the young couple both agree that their destiny is to be together forever. And they say a prayer that God will take them to the place that they desire for them to visit.
